A monthsary is the monthly anniversary of the day your relationship began. If you got together on the 14th, then the 14th of every month is a monthsary — a small milestone marking one more month together. Couples celebrate them the way they'd celebrate a yearly anniversary, just smaller and more often.
The word is especially popular in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia, where marking each month of a relationship is a widely loved tradition — but it's used by couples everywhere, particularly during the first year when every single month still feels like a big deal.
What Does "Monthsary" Mean?
"Monthsary" is a blend of month + anniversary. It simply means "monthly anniversary." You'll also see it spelled monthsarry or monthsery — all the same thing, just informal spellings of a word that grew out of everyday couple-speak rather than a dictionary.
Is It "Monthsary" or "Mensiversary"?
Both exist, and both mean the same thing. Monthsary is the everyday word couples actually use. Mensiversary is the technically correct one: "anniversary" comes from the Latin annus (year), so the monthly version swaps in mensis (month). Nobody will correct you for saying monthsary — and almost nobody says mensiversary out loud.
How Does a Monthsary Work?
A monthsary follows the calendar day, not a fixed number of days. Your monthsary is the same day-of-month as your start date, every month:
- Started dating March 8 → monthsaries on April 8, May 8, June 8…
- April 8 is your 1st monthsary, May 8 your 2nd, and so on.
- Twelve monthsaries make one year — your first anniversary.

Is a Monthsary Celebrated Every Month?
It can be, but it doesn't have to be. Most couples celebrate every month during their first year, when each one still feels like an achievement. After the first anniversary, many keep only the meaningful ones — the 18th, the 24th — and shift to yearly anniversaries. Plenty of couples keep counting monthsaries for years. There's no rule; celebrate the ones that mean something to you both.
Which Monthsaries Do Couples Actually Celebrate?
- 1st monthsary — the very first month together, usually the sweetest one.
- 3rd monthsary — the early "we're really doing this" mark.
- 6th monthsary — half a year; a big one for most couples.
- 12th monthsary — one full year, and your first real anniversary.
- 18th & 24th — a year and a half, then two years together.
