What is a monthsary?
A monthsary is the monthly anniversary of the day a couple got together. If your relationship started on the 14th, then the 14th of every month is a monthsary. It's a way to celebrate each month you've spent together — most popular in the first year of a relationship, and especially loved by couples in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia.
How to count your monthsary
Counting is simple: the day-of-month stays the same, and the count goes up by one each month. Start on June 14, and July 14 is your 1st monthsary, August 14 is your 2nd, and so on. Twelve monthsaries make one year — your first anniversary. The counter above does this automatically and tells you exactly how many days until your next one.
The monthsary milestones couples celebrate
- 1st monthsary — the very first month together.
- 3rd monthsary — the early "we're really doing this" mark.
- 6th monthsary — half a year; a big one for most couples.
- 12th monthsary — one full year, your first anniversary.
- 18th & 24th — a year and a half, then two years.
- 36th, 48th, 60th — three, four and five years together.
Monthsary or mensiversary?
You'll see both. Monthsary is the everyday word couples actually use. Mensiversary is the technically correct term — "anniversary" comes from the Latin annus (year), so the monthly version swaps in mensis (month). Either way, it means the same thing: a small milestone worth celebrating.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a monthsary?
A monthsary is the monthly anniversary of the day your relationship began. If you got together on the 6th, then every 6th of the month is a monthsary. Couples — especially in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia — celebrate monthsaries to mark each month they've been together, particularly in the first year.
How do you calculate your monthsary?
Count the number of whole months from your start date to today. If you got together on March 6, then April 6 is your 1st monthsary, May 6 is your 2nd, and so on. This free counter does the math for you and shows the exact date plus a countdown to your next one.
Is it 'monthsary' or 'mensiversary'?
'Monthsary' is the popular, widely used term, especially in the Philippines. 'Mensiversary' is technically more correct: in 'anniversary', the Latin 'annus' means year, while 'mensis' means month — so a monthly version would be a mensiversary. Both words mean the same thing: your monthly relationship milestone.
Which monthsary is the most important?
The 1st month, the 6th month (half a year), and the 12th month (your first anniversary) are the most celebrated. After the first year, many couples switch to yearly anniversaries, though plenty keep counting monthsaries for years.
How can we remember every monthsary?
The OurCouple app saves your start date and reminds both partners before each monthsary automatically, so no one forgets. It also keeps your milestones, messages and memories together in one private space for two.
